Cupping

Cupping

Cupping therapy has been practiced in China for many centuries. It involves the application of glass, plastic or silicone cups on the skin and treats tight or sore muscles. When the cup is placed on the body a vacuum is created, this has the same effect as a deep tissue massage.

The cups can be left over an area or glided along the skin. As with massage, cupping is a very relaxing treatment.  It increases the circulation of blood, lymph and oxygen to the area to relax, soften and heal the tissues. Cupping can be used alongside acupuncture treatment but can be used as a standalone therapy.

Please note cups may leave discolouration marks on the skin, which will subside within a few days or weeks.

Therapeutic massage promotes physical and mental relaxation, when the body is in a relaxed state it can heal itself more effectively and has a balancing effect on the nervous system. It involves hands on manipulation of applying pressure, tension, or vibration to the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other connective tissues using various techniques.

It is commonly used to treat stress and anxiety, muscle tension and pain by stimulating the release of endorphins, which are natural painkillers and mood elevators.

Massage can be used alongside acupuncture treatment or as stand-alone therapy. We use Neal’s Yard oil which is natural and organic.

Nada

The NADA protocol is also known as the National Acupuncture detoxification.

It involves the insertion of five needles in both ears and leaving for 30mins. These points are believed to be connected to the body’s stress response system, which aim to reduce stress, anxiety, hot flushes, improve mood, sleep and promote relaxation.

Research also suggests NADA may also be effective in reducing cravings for drug and alcohol.

Moxibustion for Breech

Moxa Breech Baby

Moxa, short for moxibustion, is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves burning dried mugwort on an acupuncture point on your toe. It is believed to help stimulate fetal movement and encourage the baby to turn into the head-down position.

Treatment involves me demonstrating moxibustion for breech and providing you with moxa sticks to take home. Your partner or friend is very welcome to come along and watch the treatment, as the treatment is best carried out by someone else as it may be difficult to treat yourself.

After 34 weeks, I can provide treatment with approval of midwife or doctor, please contact Natalie to discuss suitability.
